About Us

The Wagon Mound Public School District is located in the Northeastern part of New Mexico, along I-25. It is 40 miles North of Las Vegas and 60 miles South of Raton, NM.

Wagon Mound Schools was established in 1923.  Classes are in session on Monday through Thursday for 150 days per school year. Hours of operation are 7:35 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.

We proudly provide instructional services to Pre-K through 12th Grade students.

The Elementary has a Full day NM Pre-K/Title I Pre-K Program that services 4 year olds. Kindergarten and 1st grades are in a combined classroom. 2nd and 3rd Grade are in a combined classroom.  4th Grade and 5th grade are in a combined classroom, and 6th grade is in a single classroom.

The High School is 7th through 12th Grade with an seven period class schedule.

We strive to hire highly qualified staff at every level of instruction.

The total enrollment in Pre-K - 12 grade, at the end of the 2016-2017 school year was 62 students.  Our small numbers allows us to offer small group instruction and individualized attention to our students.

The school is classified as a 1-A school by the New Mexico Activities Association.

School Grading designations can be seen at the NM Public Education website at http://aae.ped.state.nm.us/

In 2000, the school district began an extensive remodeling of all of it's buildings and grounds.  The remodeling included pitched roofs throughout campus, drainage improvements, renovation of the Auditorium, Gym Lobby, and Alfred Romero Gym, installation of new carpet and new floor tiles throughout campus, heating and cooling improvements, stucco to exterior of the buildings, sprinkler system improvements, extension of the Administration Building, removal of noxious trees, and much more.  The District is proud to have a two man custodial/maintenance staff that continues to achieve the Ben Lujan Facility Maintenance Award because of their continued efforts to keep the facilities and grounds clean and well maintained.

The school cafeteria proudly serves meals that are as close to home cooking as cafeteria food can get.  It is staffed by one full time cook, and one part-time prep cook.  The meals are prepared onsite in a state of the art kitchen.  The school applied for and received the CEP designation from NMPED which allows all students to part take in the Breakfast and Lunch program free of charge.  Non-program staff and community members can par-take in Breakfast at a cost of $2.25 per meal and Lunch at a cost of $4.25 per meal.  The school is also proud to partner with the Wagon Mound garden "El Jardin" and "Los Jardines Institute" out of Albuquerque.  Through those partnerships, and with a salad bar donation from Whole Foods, we are fortunate to have a restaurant worthy salad bar.  The salad can be purchase as a meal on its own for only $2.25 per plate.

The school district budget is approximately $2 million dollars.  The budget includes state funding, federal flow-through grants, and capital outlay funding.

Wagon Mound Public Schools is the perfect place to send your children if you are looking for small class sizes, clean and safe facilities, and fiscal responsibility.
